One of the most common questions we come across is, “how do I backup my Oracle Apex applications?” Prior to Oracle Apex version 4.2.2, you could only back up your applications manually by going into Application Builder and running the Export function. While this worked fine, there was no way to control or manage the versions of your application.
With the release of Oracle Apex version 4.2.2 comes Packaged Applications. Packaged Applications are productivity base applications that are more or less quite usable out of the box. One of the applications in particular is quite helpful for managing your applications –
APEX Application Archive
Apex Application Archive (once installed) stores your application histories into the database itself. Meaning, even if you delete the application on accident, you will be able to download the application from the Apex Application Archive.
Another cool feature is the ability to choose with version of the application you would like to archive/restore since you are able to view the version and time it was archived using this application.
While this application is not perfect (does not have automated feature yet), it is definitely a step in the right direction in the effort to backup your Oracle Apex applications.
